Take hiking and adventure to a new level.
Brown County’s Geocaching Headquarters
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.
Who can cache?
Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment. This is an activity that is equally enjoyable alone as with your entire family.
How do I get started?
Come to Rawhide Ranch and rent a GPS unit. You will receive personal instructions on how to use the GPS unit, while finding your first cache. Then you either head off into the surrounding county or try your luck on the ranch caches.
Can I use my car GPS device to cache?
We have rarely seen a car GPS device work and highly recommend using a handheld device.
What is in a cache?
A cache will definitely have a couple of items. The first is a log book that all cachers have signed and dated, a pen or pencil to sign the book and swag.
What is swag?
Swag is the name given to the items cachers leave behind. These are items that mean something personal to the cacher. A symbol of who you are or where you have been.
